Essex
Cognatum has two estates in Essex one located in the historic market town of Halstead and the other closer to London in sought-after Chigwell just south of Epping Forest. Many great families have historically been attracted to Essex by its proximity to London, coupled with pretty countryside and a wonderful sense of space. The relatively flat nature of the landscape has made Essex an excellent centre for horse racing, with famous racecourses at Newmarket, Chelmsford and Braintree. The demeanour of the county varies wonderfully, from the lively prosperity of Colchester with its Roman legacy to the quieter towns on the Cambridgeshire and Suffolk borders, as well as the countless miles of coastline and nature reserves. When you want to explore further afield, the nearby M11 runs almost the length of the county and Luton airport is only a short distance away.
