Hampshire
Cognatum has five estates across Hampshire, in Winchester, Goodworth Clatford, Fordingbridge, Odiham and in Alton. Hampshire is elegant and picturesque, its rolling countryside taking in the New Forest and stretching down to the south coast as well as bordering the South Downs on its east side. The county town is Winchester, once the ancient capital of England and described by the poet Keats as “the pleasantest town that I was ever in”. Another literary connection comes with the town’s impressive cathedral, which is the burial place of author Jane Austen, whose final home was in Chawton in the northeast of the county. Southampton offers some attractive historical sites, and views over the Solent and across Hampshire can be enjoyed from the contemporary Spinaker Tower in Portsmouth. The road network across the county is excellent, with the M3 connecting the south coast and the M25 and both Southampton and Heathrow airports easily accessible.
